Rare Audio: RFK charms Detroit Dems

On October 29, 1966, Bobby Kennedy came to Michigan to stump for the Democrats. With the help of an RFK scholar, we listen back to that speech, made at the University of Detroit Memorial Building. Bobby is smart, moving, funny, and prescient. It's a time capsule, to be sure, but surprisingly relevant. I mean, are you surprised that Bobby would say that the GOP talks big but doesn't deliver?

    CBY Going Graveside on Mackinac

When I asked Kathy and Tom Lewand to do an interview this fall while standing over my parents' grave on Mackinac Island, I expected them to be weirded-out and refuse. But now that I think about it, it wasn't any weirder than the stuff they did with my folks over the years, like Silent Records and The Stone Skipping Contest. Note: This episode includes an excerpt of an exceedingly rare recording of a Robert Kennedy speech in Detroit in 1966.

It’s almost like he lived there!

John Rabe offers a unique viewpoint on the production of cult classic “Somewhere in Time” as he and his brother James were Johnnys-on-the-spot during the filming on the unique Mackinac Island.

This longtime NPR host has excellent connections to all the people who provide insider views of this Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour romantic classic.

Rabe’s production values put you right in the middle of things while his interviews always draw out the best in people. It’s a must listen, particularly for those who want to be transported back to somewhere in time.

Rabe’s Promise

Is it unseemly for me to review my own podcast? It would be. So please take my five-star rating to be my aspiration and challenge for each show … as well as my promise to you to deliver my best each time, to be honest with you, and to keep creating a podcast for me and for you that I’m proud of.
